Newly Renovated Marina Unveiled At July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza

The eight month renovation project of the all new Marina at American Wharf was finally unveiled to the City of Norwich in all of it’s glory during the 24th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza event on Saturday, June 30th. All those that came to participate in the free event were the first ones to enjoy this beloved location, which is the hub of the community once again. People were thrilled to see that the Marina received significant upgrades to the infrastructure and that the grounds and facilities were brought back to it’s original splendor.

“Best fireworks in 10 years…” -The Day

Thousands of people were in attendance to enjoy live entertainment, a traditional ceremony blessing by Mohegan Sun Tribal Council Chairman, Bruce “Two Dogs” Bozsum and a twenty five minute fireworks spectacular that lit up the downtown harbor. Speeches were given by Deputy House Speaker Kevin Ryan, Mayor Peter Nystrom and Senator Richard Blumenthal who were delighted to witness this positive step towards putting Norwich back on the map as a destination.

Special recognition goes out to Tony Andrade whose financial contributions and vision for the Marina renovations were instrumental in the success of the revitalization. Additionally, Mohegan Sun and Joyal Capital Management, LLC delivered with lead sponsorships and significant funding making the fireworks display the most memorable in years.

An exciting addition to the marina complex was the Grand Opening of Erickson’s Ice Cream and Cafe, which served award winning ice cream and other delicious treats during this special event.

We encourage you to stop by and visit the all new Marina either by foot or by boat to enjoy a very unique destination. If you weren’t able to make the event this year, mark it on your calendar now for next year so you and your family can be part of a very special celebration.
